Due to the global COVID-19 pandemic, for the first time, PRSA New Orleans implemented a fully virtual, interactive Fleurish Awards 2020: Unprecedented Campaigns and Champagne

PRSA New Orleans Fleurish Awards Virtual Gala: “Unprecedented Campaigns and Champagne”
NEW ORLEANS – On Thursday, January 28, 2021, the New Orleans Chapter of the Public Relations Society of America (PRSA) celebrated its annual Fleurish Awards: Unprecedented Campaigns and Champagne with a virtual gala honoring the best public relations efforts and industry leaders from the Greater New Orleans region.
The theme of this year’s awards is a direct testament to what 2020 brought everyone; as “Unprecedented” barely begins to describe what the public relations industry collectively experienced. Through it all, PR professionals and other culture bearers and storytellers of New Orleans continue to persevere through unprecedented times and events.
The spirit of perseverance through unprecedented times was evident in the hundreds of submissions received from local and regional industry professionals.
The event featured Mark Romig, APR, Senior Vice President and Chief Marketing Officer of New Orleans & Company and the 2019 PRSA Lifetime Achievement Fleurish Award Recipient and Trixie Minx, Founder and Creative Director of Trixie Minx Productions as Awards Show Co-Hosts; as well as Champagne Toast Host Fresh Johnson of Elle R. Jae Events.
Each virtual awards experience ticket purchase included locally handcrafted gifts: jarcuterie from GrazeDat, Not Too Fancy Bakery’s salted caramel praline cake jars, and Luc Belaire champagne.
“The level of creativity that we’ve seen in this year’s “Unprecedented Campaigns and Champagne” Fleurish Awards is elevated, and reflective of New Orleans’ resolve to build strong communities and create social change,” said PRSA New Orleans Chapter Board president Heather Ferdinand Gonzales, CEO of Laissez Faire Productions. “The virtual gala’s primary focus was to recognize the top media relations campaigns and projects and the talented professionals who dreamed up these ambitious initiatives and delivered results for their organizations and clients.”
To recognize the exemplary challenges presented by the COVID-19 pandemic, PRSA New Orleans Chapter called upon the New Orleans community to nominate three PR Pandemic Pivot Heroes for upholding healthcare ethics and standards: Katie Fauquier, Director of Public Relations South Shore Region, Ochsner Health System; Marcus Creel, Public Engagement Officer, Orleans Parish Communication District; and Laura Mellem, Public Engagement Manager, PIO Office of Homeland Security & Emergency Preparedness; as well as one Healthcare Hero: Allison Guste, AVP of Clinical and Operational Excellence, LCMC Health, who has gone above and beyond saving lives in our community.
The second annual Fleurish Lifetime Achievement Award recognizing an outstanding member of the New Orleans public relations community was awarded to John Deveney, President and Founder of DEVENEY Integrated Marketing Solutions. This is the highest honor bestowed by the New Orleans PRSA chapter. The Lifetime Achievement Award is meant to recognize a PR professional who has exhibited extraordinary achievements and demonstrated outstanding leadership in the field for more than 10 years.
Finally, the 2021 PRSA New Orleans Chapter Board of Directors was recognized for being the largest and most diverse women-led board. Spearheaded by PRSA New Orleans president Heather Ferdinand Gonzales, owner of Laissez Faire Productions, the symbolic crown was passed onto her from immediate past president Malana Joseph Mitchell, VP of Public Relations for Spears Group and PRSA Southwest District Board of Directors. Jennifer Daley, PRSA New Orleans Programming Chair and Director of Marketing and Communications for the Jewish Endowment Foundation of Louisiana, was awarded this year’s Fleurish Ball of Fire award and Gonzales was awarded this year’s Plate Spinner award.
Entries were judged by the PRSA Sierra Nevada Chapter in Reno, Nevada. Each entry is judged on a 100 point scale.
